Himru
Suraiya Hasan Bose
Derived from a Persian word ‘Hum-ruh’ which means ‘similar’. Hand woven in silk and cotton yarns, it was developed as a cheaper substitute to Kim-Khawab, patronized by the royalty in the 14th century.

In almost every craft, the story is one of Decline. This documentation on ‘Himru’ is compiled with a hope that it will act as a call to action to those who have it within their power to give the craft a new life. This craft documentation is a dedication to the last bearers of a torch that has been alight for generations, Syed Omer Saab and Suraiya apa.
